Maintaining strong and healthy families is a tricky business these days. There are influences all around that would interfere with these goals. I have helped families deal with
- Divorce
- Remarriage
- Parenting issues
- Family crises
- Health issues
- Severe trauma
Family Health requires that each family member understand and appreciate his or her special gifts and contributions, and be recognized within the family for their unique and positive qualities.
When working with families, I teach each member to be strong and confident within themselves, exercise sensitive and skillful communication and respect for each family member.
Many families these days do not look like the traditional family of mom, dad, kids and dog that many of us grew up with. Today’s families may take many shapes and forms, including:
- Traditional families
- Gay couples with or without children
- Step families
- Transgender parents
The important thing in maintaining Family Health is to respect each family member and deal with issues of sense of purpose and identity as well as strong, honest communication.
