interesting tidbits

My own personal trainer offers important advice:
Good posture is important for good health and exercise!  Without good posture, no matter how popular the training program, it will not be effective and you will not receive the results you want.
Align earlobes, shoulders, knees and ankles.  By maintaining this posture, all muscles receive equal gravitational pull, preventing back ache and stiff shoulders.
In your workout as well as daily activities, try to make a point of remembering good posture!  Your body will thank you!

Boost your immune system for good health

1.  Eat thoughtfully and in moderation.  Often my clients talk to me about new diets they are on.  One that seems to be most popular, and actually can be very effective with weight loss is really hard on your liver and kidneys. That is the high protein diets that usually advise you to avoid carbs.

2.  Sleep well.  That means getting good quantity and quality of sleep.  As I have mentioned before, each organ needs time to rest.  I have found out, too, that when someone hasn't had enough sleep, they are more sensitive during acupuncture sessions!
3.  Don't take on too much stress.  To keep stress at bay, exercise is very helpful.  I think cardio works better for this than even weight training.  The reason for this is that, weight training takes thoughtfulness and concentration and when you are stressed sometimes you don't take the time to concentrate on proper
form.  Men, in particular, tend to overwork the neck and shoulders, causing damage.  It is important to focus on the particular muscle you are working on to prevent injury. (See also relax.)
4.  Find things to laugh about!  Research shows that laughing can be part of a treatment for cancer.  Harold H. Benjamin, PhD, is quoted as saying, "Laughter in and of itself cannot cure cancer nor prevent cancer, but laughter as part of the full range of positive emotions including hope, love, faith, strong will to live, determination and purpose, can be a significant and indispensable aspect of the total fight for recovery."

An organ for each season
by Yuki Yonezawa
According to chinese medicine, each season has an organ associated with it.  During that season, its specified organ works harder than usual.  For spring, the organ is the liver.  The liver's job is to store the blood overnight and clean it and send it back to the heart.  That's why sleeping is so important.  You gotta have it to keep your body healthy!
When you exercise you use your muscles, so you have to feed your muscles...What do you feed them?  Blood!  If you do not have good quality sleep, you do not produce good blood and you feel tired.
Feel what your body is telling you; hear what it says.  This is one of the most important things you can learn to do, so that your body can keep you healthy.

YUKI SAYS BEWARE OF FRIGID TEMPERATURES!
Anything that makes your body temperature colder, i.e. ice cold drinks, raw fish, fruits and vegetables right from the refrigerator, needs to be consumed in moderation, even in summer, when you are already in air-conditioning.
Why?  Because coldness slows your body functions, like blood circulation and metabolism;  it affects women's issues as well, such as menstual cramps, fibroids, and ability to conceive. (That is why you ice a sprained wrist or a fever, to quiet it down and shrink inflamation.)
A long time ago, when I visited Hong Kong, I noticed that they didn't serve ice with tea or water and found out that this is why.  Putting anything in your body that significantly reduces body temperature in not good for optimal health.
