Earthquake Relief in Pakistan

The 2006 earthquake in the Northwest frontier of Pakistan left many homeless and without food and supplies.  I was asked to come to Pakistan to teach stress relief and help the people heal from the trauma they had experienced. I traveled to the mountains, visited make shift schools among the rubble and distributed blankets, tents, clothing and other supplies to the victims whose homes had been destroyed.

We stayed overnight in the police chief’s home, experiencing aftershocks even weeks after the earthquakes.  No wonder the people were so terrified!  There was no place they could feel safe.

We were given an armed escort up into the mountainous regions, where we carried the supplies.  Desperate people would mob our van looking for what we had brought them.

With winter coming on, there was a desperate feeling in the air and the people were needing to provide for their families.  We provided tents to serve as school classrooms.  It was such a privilege to see girls’ schools as well!  And yet so heartbreaking to see complete neighborhoods reduced to piles of rocks and sand.
